About Lewis Stages Charter Bus Transportation

Frequently Asked Questions

How long have your company been in business?

Lewis Stages has serviced Utah and the Intermountain West since 1914.

Where are you located and what locations do you service?

Our Utah address is: 549 W 500 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84101. We mostly receive requests for over-the-road trips across the Western United States, thought we will drive anywhere, including Canada and Mexico.

What are the hours of operations?

Hours of Operation: Lewis Stages operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Our Dispatch phone lines are monitored 24 hours a day and we strive to accommodate any customers’s needs no matter the hour of the day or how soon you need transportation services.

How do you screen your drivers?

Every potential driver must undergo screening upon hiring, and will be screened at random year-round and quarterly thereafter. If a driver has been gone for more than 30 days, they must re-screen. This process includes, but is not limited to, an MVR check, background check, and qualification for commercial driving and airport access requirements.

What safety training do your drivers receive?

Lewis Stages drivers undergo our New Hire Introductory Safety Training, Mandatory Yearly Safety Training, Year-Round Refresher Training, and Quarterly Safety Training & Briefing.

What level of insurance does your company hold?

$5 million, full insurance coverage.

Do your buses have seat-belts?

Yes, upon request.

How far can a driver drive/travel in a day?

600 miles or 12 hours’ driving time (15 hours on the clock).

What is the booking process?

An Account Executive will make arrangements with you over the phone or via email. To issue an accurate quote, Account Executives prefer having specific information on hand. This includes:
Pick up date & location
Number of guests
Destination
Duration of the trip/ Anticipated end time
Other itinerary details (e.g., dinner, sightseeing)

Once they have your travel details, Account Executives can issue prompt quotes for pricing, and can help you find the best travel arrangement(s) for your group.

How can I book a charter bus for my group?

Our sales department is always on hand to assist.

If you wish to contact us about a trip originating in Utah please call 801.433.6523 or email sales@lewisstages.com.

If you wish to contact us about a trip originating in Las Vegas please call 702.207.644 or email lasvegassales@lewisstages.com.

What is the next step after a trip is booked?

How far in advance do I need to book?

We suggest that you reach out to our sales teams as soon as possible to find out what the options are and inquire as to the availability of the dates of your event. It is not always necessary to book months in advance, but there are certainly times where availability is slim and we recommend putting a deposit down as quickly as possible. If you’ve already completed your contract and received a Confirmation Number, we will adjust your pricing accordingly. We recommend giving as much notice as possible when making changes, to ensure the best selection of equipment and travel arrangements possible.

Driver gratuity is optional. Standard gratuity is 5-10%.

I would only like to rent a bus for a short amount of time. What is the minimum amount of time that a bus can be booked?

We offer straight transfers (point-to-point) and hourly, as-directed service. For straight transfers, there is no minimum time, since this would involve pick up and drop off only. For hourly service, there is a 5-hour minimum charge.*

*Charged yard-to-yard, meaning the time the bus departs the SLC yard, to the time the bus returns to the SLC yard

I have my confirmation. Can I still make changes? Will I lose my reservation?

Guests can always make changes, but it’s usually most beneficial to have itineraries confirmed at least 7 days in advance. We will do whatever we can to accommodate last-minute changes. Please have your Group Coordinator get in touch with your designated Account Executive to ensure the most accurate exchange of information.

How far in advance should I reserve a charter bus or mini-bus?

The more advanced notice you can give, the better. There is a high demand on bus equipment, so last-minute requests may have more limited options. We always try to accommodate last-minute requests.

What types of vehicles do you have?

MCI and Vanhool motor coaches, Krystal mini coaches, and Ford Transit vans.

Will my bus look like the one your website?

We have a large fleet with a wide variety of styles. If you prefer the bus pictured on the website, please let us know when booking, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request. We cannot guarantee availability of exact bus models.

How large are the vehicles offered?

Lewis Stages owns and operates three types of buses that are available for your potential transportation needs:

1 – Motor Coaches: Full Size, tour quality buses, that accommodate 50-56 passengers. Motor Coaches are equipped with an aisle down the middle, two seats on each side of the aisle, a restroom in the rear, under carriage storage, overhead storage bins for smaller items, Microphones and DVD systems. Additional items such as Wifi, 110 volt outlets and other amenities may be available upon request. Motor Coaches are the best option for multiple day trips, moving large groups around town, or long extended journeys.

2 – Mini Coaches: Smaller version buses that accommodate 24-34 passengers. Mini Coaches are equipped with an aisle down the middle, two seats on each side of the aisle, a rear storage compartment, overhead storage bins for smaller items, Microphones and DVD systems. Mini Coaches are generally restricted for use within the immediate area and not recommended for longer multiple day or out of state travels.

3 – Transit Buses: City-Style buses that ride lower to the ground, often have double door entry/exit loading areas. These buses can accommodate up to 50 passengers with seating and standing areas. Transit buses are most ideal for very short, flat shuttle systems such as a hotel shuttle from a few hotels to the Convention Center. (Not available in Las Vegas).

Do your buses have air conditioning, restroom and TV/VCR/DVD systems?

Yes, and our buses even have WiFi! It may be necessary to request certain electronic amenities, such as electrical outlets and a PA System.

Are your buses handicap-accessible?

We provide options for local transfers. Please call for availability.

How many TV screens are on each bus?

Each full-sized has 8 TV screens.

Do you offer Wifi on your buses?

Lewis Stages offers Wifi upon request on all Motor Coaches and Mini Coaches.

The Wifi offered on these buses has a great bandwidth to accommodate numerous devices running off the Wifi while rolling down the road. Please speak to your sales representative about this option.

Do you offer outlets to plugin laptops on your buses?

Lewis Stages has several buses that are equipped with 110 volt outlets.

This is available in Motor Coaches only and must be requested through your sales representative. The outlets are sporadically placed throughout the bus. Please speak to your sales representative about this option.

How many passengers does a charter bus generally seat?

Motor Coaches can seat a maximum of 54 guests.

Q. How many passengers does a mini-bus generally seat?

Most mini buses can seat a maximum of 28 guests. Some mini buses seat 34 guests, but must be requested due to high demand.

Yes. We have several that are capable of traveling long distances, including out-of-state transfers.

What can I expect if my bus is late or has a mechanical issue?

If an issue occurs before the bus reaches you, your Program Manager will contact you. In the case that a bus is not working…. [cover run]

Who pays for the driver's hotel room if needed?

The group can book the room themselves, and many groups prefer this option, since they often receive a discount for mass-booking.

Minimum of $100/night or the price of the actual room (if it exceeds $100)

Can I bring food and refreshments on the bus?

Guests are welcome to bring food and refreshments onboard. You are also welcome to request having us stock your vehicle with refreshments prior to your pick-up. Many guests prefer this option, so they don’t have to worry about getting food ready for a large group.

Is alcohol allowed on your buses?

Example 1: If you’re being picked up and dropped off at a residence, private lodging, or hotel, you may bring alcohol onboard for thedeparture and the return trip.

Example 2: If you’re being picked up at a parking lot and dropped off at a reception, party, or other event, you may have alcohol onboard for the departure. However, if your return trip will drop off at the parking lot again, you may not have alcohol onboard for thereturn trip.
